Real Sociedad has a highly respected youth academy, known as Zubieta, which has a reputation for developing top-level talent. The academy has been responsible for producing some of the best players in Spanish football, many of whom have gone on to play for Real Sociedad's first team, as well as other top clubs in Spain and Europe. The academy places a strong emphasis on player development and has a track record of producing technically-gifted players who are comfortable on the ball and have a good understanding of the game.
Some of the most notable players to have come through the Real Sociedad academy include Xabi Alonso, Antoine Griezmann, and Asier Illarramendi. Alonso is perhaps the most successful academy graduate, having gone on to win numerous domestic and international titles with clubs such as Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, as well as with the Spanish national team. Griezmann, who is now a star for Atlético de Madrid and the French national team, played for Real Sociedad's youth teams before making his breakthrough with the first team. Illarramendi, who is a regular for Real Sociedad and has also played for the Spanish national team, is another academy graduate who has established himself as one of the most talented midfielders in Spain.
